Carterton School

The Steps System

If a child breaks a rule they will then be part of the whole school Steps System.

Teachers and/or duty staff will deal with the majority of minor incidents informally, without using the Steps System.

On the Steps

Children remain on the Step 4 and above for a week. At the end of a week, if there is no further misdemeanor the child reverts one Step. This provides the opportunity for the child to aim for improved behaviour and in so doing, begin again with a “clean slate”. The step system is closely monitored from Step 4 by the Principal.

Participation in Extra-Curricular Activities

As a consequence of misbehaviour a child may be withdrawn from extra-curricular activities e.g. sports trips.

Fast Track

Discretion by staff will be used in the initial placing of the child on the Steps System. Serious offences will be fast tracked to the appropriate Step.
