Our School Description

Carterton School is a decile 4 school situated in a provincial town delivering education based on the New Zealand Curriculum to Year 0 - Year 8 students.


Carterton School was opened in 1876 The school is sited near the centre of the town adjacent to Carrington Park.

The roll of the school fluctuates and in the middle of the year is usually about 320 children. The school is in an outstanding setting, which includes a hall, swimming pool and generous grounds.

The school operates in four learning teams led by teachers with positions of permanent responsibility.

There is a strong Maori Heritage within the district. The parents and community members support the school by being involved in a range of school activities.

  2. To focus on ensuring that all students achieve to the best of their academic ability.
  3. To develop students who have a connection with their wider community and environment.


Our commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi

Carterton School acknowledges the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. All students will have the opportunity to acquire knowledge of Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori.
