Pupil Security & Attendance

Carterton School makes every effort to account for every child enrolled every school day. Continual absence makes it difficult for children to benefit fully and enjoy the school’s programmes. Legally, health matters are the only acceptable reasons for absence. If your child is absent for other reasons please discuss this with your child’s teacher or the Principal.

The three methods to inform the school about the absence of your child:

1. Telephone the school on (06) 379 4010 and speak to the Office Secretary, Margaret Hutchings.
2. Visit the Office or class teachers personally.
3. A written, signed note to the class teacher.

The first method is preferred as it allows us to account for your child on the day they are absent. We appreciate the fact that most parent/caregivers take this option. We are endeavouring to operate a system which allows us to account for all enrolled children every day so anything you can do to assist this is appreciated.

Children are not allowed to leave the school grounds during lunch time unless they go home for lunch.  In this case they must advise a teacher.
