Other Important Events
Calf & Lamb Competition – The school participates in Group Day Competition. Calves and Lambs are reared for the school Pet Day and then taken on to the Group Day at Clareville Showgrounds.
Home Gardens – Spring garden – judged in December. A diary of dates, plantings etc should be kept. Flower or vegetable gardens can be entered.
Disco Dances – Regular Disco dances are held for our children during the year. The Discos are early evening and held in the School Hall. Social dancing may also be taught in Term 4 to senior students and Term 3 to Middle school students. There is also a Junior School “dress-up” dance.
Wairarapa Arts Festival – Every year – displayed at the Arts Centre in Masterton. Many of our children enter.
Talent Quest – Term 4 – Open to all children. An opportunity for children to display their talents.
Speech Competition (All Wairarapa Schools) - For Year 7 & 8 children. Our children have often won places in the finals.
Matharapa Competition – Year 7 & 8 Teams are entered in this inter-school challenge in Masterton. A Year 5 & 6 challenge is held at Kuranui College.
International Competitions – Children have the opportunity of entering the International competitions in Maths, Science, Computers, Spelling and English. In recent years the school has gained a number of particularly high achievements in these competitions.
Science Fair -An opportunity for children to investigate and display their findings in science. The school has a Science Fair for all classes early in Term 3. Children who do well go on to exhibit their work at the Masterton based fair later in Term 3. All children have an opportunity to enter exhibits or displays.
Year 8 – Powell Hut Challenge – Late Term 3 or early Term 4 all Year 8 children are challenged to climb Mt Holdsworth and stay overnight at Powell Hut. This is a demanding physical and mental challenge into snow and alpine conditions. An exciting and confidence-boosting activity which is now part of our school tradition.
Confidence Course Challenge – Held on the school’s own Confidence Course. Children can use the course throughout the year. Competition – Term 4.
Sports Uniforms – The school loans sports uniforms supplied by the PTA, (a maroon sports shirt with yellow daffodil). These include polo shirts, rugby jerseys and netball uniforms. Any item on loan must be cared for and promptly returned cleaned after the sports day.
School Newsletter – The newsletter comes out weekly on a Tuesday and is either e-mailed to parents or goes home with the youngest child in the family. It is dated, numbered and has a return slip. We really appreciate the fact that parents do read and act on newsletter information. |
