Our school picnic is on Thursday this week! Bring your dinner to school on Thursday from 5.30pm – maybe a picnic or fish and chips or buy some sausages from the PTA sausage sizzle. We will be having a relaxed family time. Some organised races and games will be running for the children – adults are welcome to join in and help! Sorry that the pool will not be open this time. Please note that the school grounds are ‘smoke free’ at all times. Teachers will be introduced at about 6pm so you can put a face to the name (and they will be wearing name badges). We look forward to seeing you.
The school year has started off really well, classes are settling in to routines and hard work has already started. Please pop in to say hello to your child’s teacher before or after school if you are around. It is good for your children to know that you keep in touch!
Some people have asked me about our teacher Lesley Alecock’s role this term as she does not have a class yet. Lesley will be taking a junior class when the new entrant numbers rise later in the year (this could be as early as Term 2 this year, usually it is at the start of term 3.) Lesley has excellent skills and knowledge in teaching reading and writing, especially in the junior school. She will be working alongside teachers in year 1-4 to support reading programmes in a similar way to Chanda who is co-teaching in maths.
Swimming sports. The year 4 to 8 students went to Carterton Pool yesterday to take part in the school swim sports. They were all wonderfully behaved and supportive of each other. Thanks to the parents who came along to support and help out and to those who joined staff in the student/parent/teacher relay. We had more volunteers than we needed! Thanks for your enthusiasm – the children love this event. Well done Jo Taia and the team for their excellent organisation. The children who are going to the Cluster sports in Greytown on Wednesday 24 February will be notified soon.
Alison.
