We are fast approaching the end of term 1. It has been a short term – but a lot has happened. We have had success in a range of sporting events, swimming sports and rugby. The harriers event is this Sunday so good luck to all of our runners. Academically all class teachers have been working on getting to know your children in as much detail as possible. We have used some new assessment tools this year which have provided detailed information on student strengths and areas to work on. Our work with Chanda Pinsent as a co-teacher of mathematics (working in every classroom) has been exciting for teachers as we reflect closely on our teaching. Having Lesley Alecock available to look in depth at the reading in years 1 to 4 has provided further in depth information and given us an excellent picture of student achievement overall. Credit must go to our classroom teachers who have put many hours of work together into providing appropriate programmes for your children.

Next term the new entrant class (Lesley Schofield) will grow steadily but fairly slowly. With this in mind, and the fact that the building project will be continuing into term 2, we will have two teachers in Room 9 for the maths and literacy programme from 9am to 12pm each day next term. Lesley Alecock will be working with Lesley Schofield and this will provide a fantastic targeted programme for the children newest to our school.

The junior building project is well underway.
Today the crashing, banging and pneumatic drilling has been particularly loud. Well done to the children and teachers who are managing to put up with this. We knew this would happen – and it will all be worth it, but extra supplies of panadol will be available for teachers at morning tea and lunch times! If the noise level gets too loud and intrusive we will try to find an alternative space for the class for some respite, but it is difficult to know where!

BOT elections are coming up soon. Nomination forms will be sent home later this week. Please think about putting your name forward for election. There is support and training available for new trustees. Talk to any current BOT member for the inside story!

Yours sincerely,
Alison Woollard, Principal
