Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to Term 2 at Carterton School! We have welcomed several new families to our community and look forward to getting to know you all over the coming weeks. We currently have a roll of 329 students – a very healthy number. As always please do not hesitate to come and see us if you have any questions, concerns or ideas.
Last week the teachers all attended some inspiring seminars with Australian Tony Ryan. In an educational environment where it could be easy to get ground down by National Standards, cuts in education and other issues, we came away filled with enthusiasm and zest for our work in school. We are so lucky to work in a collaborative workplace where we are surrounded by the energy of young people and our colleagues.
Board of Trustees nominations
We urgently require more nominations for parent trustees. If you have been thinking about standing for the board please get your nomination form to the office by Friday this week (23 April). For more information on the responsibilities of the board you can contact current members:
Sarah Smith 3795154, Minty Hunter 3795277, Pete Mele 3795696, John Fraser 021 606501, Deb Julian 3795532.
Whanau Week
Next week we are having one of our fabulous Carterton School ‘Whanau Weeks’. For one session each day the children are grouped across the school – each class will have children from 5 to 13 years in it. The teachers will plan special learning experiences related to an environmental theme and the children move to a different class each day. These days really help us to build our school community and are great fun for everyone.
Paid Union meeting
The Teachers Collective Employment Agreement allows for one union meeting during normal school hours per year. The NZEI have called a meeting in Greytown for our teachers on the afternoon of Thursday 6 May to discuss the new employment contract. Our teachers will be not be at school on this afternoon. If you are unable to arrange child care for that afternoon please phone Margaret on 379 4010. Last changed: Apr 20 2010 at 10:04 AM
