Dear Parents and Caregivers

This year we have a wonderful group of students at Carterton School who have the potential to have an amazingly successful year in all areas.

Many students are making a huge contribution to us achieving our first school community goal: ‘To develop a positive learning culture which will produce students who are enthusiastic, contributing members of society.’ (Carterton School Strategic Plan)

Unfortunately over the past few weeks we have become aware of some behaviours which are hindering the development of the ‘positive learning culture’ we work so hard to build up. We want to get on top of this. We think it is important that you are aware of the situation, and we need your support.

Most students are working hard, trying their best and get on well with others. However, there seems to be a small group who are taking part in the following unacceptable behaviours to a greater or lesser extent:

  • Name calling / put downs.
  • Lack of respect towards others (adults and children).
  • Swearing.
  • Physical actions towards others.

We will not allow learning to be compromised by a few students who are disrupting learning and play times. We will be reinforcing rewards and consequences for children according to their behaviour in and out of class. Please encourage your child to always let an adult know if things are happening which affect their learning or play. Talk to them about how they are reacting and behaving at school. Are they meeting our expectations? Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions, comments or concerns.

BOT Voting closes midday Friday! Don’t forget to send your voting paper in- you can see more about the candidates here. The ballot box is in the office area.  Results will be published on approximately Saturday 15th May.
