Dear Parents and Caregivers

Last week I wrote about the concerns we have with some behaviour in school. Last Friday we had a visitor from another school to observe our assembly. Their feedback was wonderful, as they saw a group of well over 300 students paying attention to each other with respect and celebrating their own and others successes. In the last week there have also been many examples of students throughout school really trying their best to keep the rules and do their best. Well done Carterton School students!

On a related note – there has been some inappropriate behaviour in Carrington Park recently. (Graffiti, name calling and stone throwing.) Some of our students have been on the edge of what has been happening. Please provide your child with ways to manage their own behaviour if they see or hear this type of thing starting to happen. Unsupervised children in the park are very vulnerable.

On Thursday this week we are hosting an Oxfam Fair Trade coffee morning in the staffroom.
You are invited to come along 10-10.30am for a delicious plunger coffee and cake / muffins. Your $5 donation will go to Oxfam to support their work.

Thank you to everyone who has voted in the BOT election this month. Votes will be counted later this week (we have to wait to make sure any postal votes have arrived before counting them all.) Results will be published next week.

Weetbix – 1 kg boxes available at $3.00 per box.  Money to go towards Breakfast Club.  Please pay and collect from the school office.

Thank you for sending in your old inkjet cartridges for recycling.  We have received $35.00 for the last box sent in.  Any Hewlett Packard, Lexmark, Canon lasers or selected Canon ink cartridges that have an electronic printhead attached are suitable to recycle.  Keep them coming!

SLINGSHOT ‘BETTER SCHOOLS’ PROGRAMME
We are now part of this wonderful programme whereby Slingshot customers can choose to have a percentage of their monthly bill donated to the school. Each month, Slingshot will send us a cheque to use as we see fit. How big that cheque is depends on you! If you’d like this easy and pain free way to contribute please go to www.slingshot.co.nz/schools or call 0800 89 2000 and speak to one of their friendly customer helpers.

Yours sincerely,

Alison Woollard,
Principal
