Winter weather has certainly arrived! While curling up in front of the fire at home is lovely, wet playtimes are not much fun for students or teachers! We provide a range of activities in classrooms suitable for wet days, but if you have any old games / lego etc you would like to donate to school to help amuse the children please drop them off at the office (it does not matter if they are too old or young for your child’s class – we will find a suitable home for them!) Thank you.
Our new ‘Rainbow Reading programme’ has started this week. Over 30 children are able to take part in a programme which involves listening to stories and practicing their reading skills. Thanks to the generous community members who are coming along to over-see the programme we are able to run the programme several times a week.
School cross country is tomorrow from 11am. Jo Taia has detailed the organisation below. Please do not take your child from their house group during the event – there have been problems in the past when children have left the area where they should be. Many thanks!
Don’t forget – Friday this week the school is closed for instruction. We are back at school 8.55 am on Tuesday 8 June. Enjoy a lovely long weekend!
Next term I will be away from school. I have been granted a principal's sabbatical for 10 weeks. During the sabbatical period I will be completing a report on student engagement and student involvement in school life. In term three the school will be in the capable hands of Wendy Taylor, who will be acting principal, and Barbara Whitburn will be acting deputy principal. Barbara will continue as Team three leader. It is a strange feeling to be planning to be away for 10 weeks, but I am sure the break will certainly invigorate and revive me – so watch out on my return!! Thanks to the board of Trustees for the support they have given me for this opportunity.
A reminder that our FREE breakfast club runs on Monday and Thursday mornings from 8.15-8.45am. Weetbix, milo and toast are available in the hall. All children are welcome.
Lunch menu Change! As from 8th June the Tuna salad will no longer be available. Spaghetti Bolognaise will replace it - $4. Hand made by a real Italian chef! YUM!
Cross Country – The School Cross Country will be held tomorrow 2nd June, after interval at 11.00 am. It would be great if students could wear a top in their “House” colour (Hui – Red, Kotare – Yellow, Tui – Blue, Weka – Green). They should also bring shorts to run in. It is strongly recommended that children wear shoes as there are sharp sticks and thistles in “Paterson’s Paddock”. Parents are very welcome to come and watch the races. Students are to remain seated in their house groups when they are not running. If the weather is really bad, the Cross Country will be postponed until next Wednesday. The South Wairarapa Schools event at Kahutara is on the 16th June.
We have had several reports of unsafe driving when collecting children from the school carpark, Tyne St or Holloway St. This is especially noticeable on wet days. Please keep in mind the safety of our children when driving in and around our school – drive slowly, don’t call your child across the road to you (always get them to use the crossing), park legally (no double parking or parking on yellow lines, only park in marked areas). Thanks for your help in keeping Carterton School children safe.
Parent/Teacher interviews - Wednesday 23 June 3.15-8pm & Thursday 24 June 3.15-5pm. Booking forms will be sent out on Monday 14th June.
Book Club – Last day for orders is this Thursday. Please send to Mr O’Connell in Room 6.
Eveready Barcodes! We have sent off our first lot of 15, please keep sending them in, the more we get the better our chances! Read all about it at http://powertolearn.co.nz/
Is your daughter aged 5 or 6? She may be interested in joining Pippins. Pippins is held on a Thursday from 3.15-4.30 pm at St Mark’s Church Hall. We play games, do cooking, crafts and have a fun time! Phone Debbie Fryer on 379 6588 for more information.
