I hope you all had an enjoyable long weekend – even though the weather was not very kind.
Report files will be coming home on Friday 18 June (next Friday). They will include a variety of work samples and graphs / charts which will let you know how your child is doing with some key aspects of learning. While the files will give you a lot of information it can not replace the importance of a face to face discussion with your child’s teacher. The week after the files come home we will have parent teacher interviews on Wednesday 23 June (3.15-8pm) and Thursday 24 June (3.15-5pm). We expect to see all parents after the report files have come home. Appointment forms for the 15 minute sessions will be coming home next Monday. Please return these promptly – first in first served to get your preferred time slot!
During the interviews Chanda Pinsent, our maths specialist, will have a display and examples of the numeracy work we are doing at school in the staffroom. Please come and see her before or after your appointments, and have a go at some of the activities the children do in class.
Did you know that the school Health Nurse, Judi Harding, is always in school on a Thursday? If you have any questions, or would like to see her, phone the school office for an appointment.
There seem to be a lot of tummy bugs starting up this week. Please keep your child at home if they are ill – bugs can pass very quickly in the school environment.
Cross Country – The School Cross Country will be held tomorrow 9th June, after interval at 11.00 am. It would be great if students could wear a top in their “House” colour (Huia – Red, Kotare – Yellow, Tui – Blue, Weka – Green). They should also bring shorts to run in. It is strongly recommended that children wear shoes as there are sharp sticks and thistles in “Paterson’s Paddock”. Parents are very welcome to come and watch the races. Students are to remain seated in their house groups when they are not running. If it is too wet we will run it on Thursday. The South Wairarapa Schools event at Kahutara is on the 16th June.
Jump Rope 4 Heart! As part of our school wide skipping programme – we will fundraise for the Heart Foundation. Our “skip off” day is Wednesday 23rd June. Please see the Skip-a-thon Challenge booklet for further details.
Senior Kapahaka are visiting Papawai on 17th June. Remember to bring your $5 and permission slip to Mrs A. We will need a lot of transport. It would be greatly appreciated if any member of the school community could help with transport on the day. Please contact Lesley Alecock at school if you can help. We will need you from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm. Thanks.
Lunch menu Change! As from today the Tuna salad will no longer be available. Spaghetti Bolognaise will replace it - $4. Hand made by a real Italian chef! YUM!
Eveready Barcodes! Please keep sending them in, the more we get the better our chances! Read all about it at http://powertolearn.co.nz/
Winter Warmers Reading Programme. This winter season Carterton Library will once again be holding the ever popular Winter Warmers Reading Programme. This programme aims to encourage children to read as a fun thing to do, through rewards, activity sheets and events – like the fantastic storyteller Tanya Batt. The programme runs for six weeks from 21st June to 30th July. Enrolments open on 9th June and end on 16th June.
Yours sincerely,
Alison Woollard,
