CHANGE OF DATE – Due to poor ground conditions the South Wairarapa Cross Country event has been POSTPONED until Friday 18th June.

It must be cross country week – the weather has turned very wintery! Congratulations to the students who are representing our school at the cross country at Kahutara on Friday. We wish you all well – make sure you take plenty of clothes to keep you warm! Our school cross country event last week ran so smoothly – thanks to all involved. Several students entered the ‘muddiest person’ competition I think!

Another special visit is taking place on Thursday this week when our kapa haka group is going ‘on tour’ to visit Dalefield School, Carterton Kindy and Papawai Marae. We are very proud of this group who put so much effort into preparing their performances.

A third inspirational activity I have recently witnessed at Carterton School was the performance at assembly by Rooms 5 and 13 as they played a new song for us (ukuleles, xylophones, recorders and voices). Room 8 also organised a fabulous assembly – especially with their ‘Number 3’ song! They were all wonderful!

We had the Kuranui College Road Show visiting last Friday. Students from Kuranui came and showed us a range of the activities they have on offer eg drama, music, art. Our whole school was in the hall dancing, cheering and congaing (is there such a word?!) The Carterton children were FANTASTIC. We all had a great time – but as soon as the children were asked to sit down and listen they did. All of the teachers were so proud! One student was heard to say as they left the hall ‘That wasn’t a road show – that was a party!’

Among all of this busy fun, mud and laughter there has been a lot of learning going on in classes. Teachers and students have been very hard at work putting together a report file to show you some samples of what your child has been doing at school this term, and to show you how well s/he is doing in key areas of the curriculum. I have had the pleasure of reading every one of the files coming home and I have enjoyed them all. You child’s report file will be coming home on Friday. Parent teacher interviews are next week to discuss how things are going – make sure you send in your request for a time soon – they are filling up fast

Kapahaka trip to Kindy, Papawai and Dalefield School this Thursday 17th June.  Transport update – We will now be travelling by bus and car, as we didn’t have enough vehicles to transport us.  Remember to bring a jacket, drink, lunch and morning tea.

We have a Scooter in the foyer of the school office that has been left here for a few weeks.  It has blue handles and the words “Speeder” written on the shaft and handle.  Please call into the school office if you think it belongs to you.
