GO THE ALL WHITES!

Cross Country – Congratulations to the students who took part in the Cross Country at Kahutara last week.  We have 5 people going to the Regional Race in Waikanae.  Go Carterton School!

Parent Teacher Interviews – We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday or Thursday after school.  Your appointment times have been sent home.  If you have lost your slip please ring Margaret at the office.  We will make every effort to keep to times.  A bell will ring every 15 minutes to start the next interview.  A special feature of the interviews this term is that Chanda Pinsent, our co-teacher of maths, will have a “maths kiosk” set up in the staffroom.  Chanda will be there to answer any questions you may have about maths at school, and she will have some games and activities to share.  Every family who comes to the maths kiosk will be given a small “fun maths pack” to bring home!  Come along to collect yours!

Today – Two students have gone to represent our school at the Year 7 & 8 Speech Competitions.  Some selected finalists will be chosen to attend the evening speech competition on Thursday.  Good luck girls!

Please return report files at Parent Teacher Interviews or by the end of the term.

Rainbow Reading - Rainbow Reading is now up and running.  Many thanks to the parents, grandparents and members of community groups who have made a commitment to work with our children, at least one day per week for ten weeks.  We are extremely lucky to have ten fantastic volunteers!  Rainbow Reading is proven to improve children’s ability to read with accuracy, fluency and expression.  Feedback from these children is already positive.  We look forward to recording the success of this programme through children’s reading.

Spelling Review - As mentioned in the Report Files sent home at the end of last week, Carterton School’s spelling programme is currently under review.  Although we did not include a spelling sample in the files this term, teachers have continued to teach spelling.  These lessons have already been influenced by professional development provided by Jean Field who is highly qualified in this aspect of teaching literacy.  Two key features are recording how the sounds are heard in speech and learning is based on the stages of spelling development.  Our fantastic teachers will begin to implement the new spelling programme  from Term 3.  We look forward to sharing some examples in the Report Files in Term 4.
