Dear Parents and Caregivers

Huge congratulations go from all of us to Barbara Whitburn, who married her lovely partner Paul at the weekend. Barbara and Paul managed to surprise their friends who had thought they were attending a birthday party! To follow the ceremony Barbara and Paul have announced that they are expecting a baby in December. This is such wonderful news. We are all so happy for them.

The winter term is not always our favourite here at school.
In class we often have lots of damp children who have not been able to let off enough steam at break time! This term has been exciting however. The junior classrooms are looking AMAZING. Lesleys Schofield and Alecock are currently sharing Room 9 and Kirsty Hull has moved into Room 10 for now. We are hopeful that the other rooms will be finished in the early / middle part of term 3. We will be changing the room numbering when the classrooms are finished, as we will have one more teaching space. The new entrant room will be Room 1, moving through to Brent Ballantyne’s room which will become Room 14. Our ‘grand opening’ will be at the beginning of term 4.

Next term the school focus will be science investigations for the first few weeks (Science Fair is coming up!) and then each team is working on performing arts. No doubt there will be a few props and costumes to be prepared. It sounds like great fun already.

Next term I will be on my sabbatical leave. Wendy Taylor will be acting principal and Barbara Whitburn will be acting deputy principal. Things will continue as they are now – so please do not hesitate to contact either of them if you have any questions or concerns.

Please send back your childs report file THIS WEEK if you have not already done so. (To the class teacher.) The file will be updated and sent home again in term 4.

World Cup football.  Students from Kuranui College are coming to school this Friday to run a World Cup Football tournament (weather permitting).  Each class in Rooms 1 - 8 will represent a country in the World Cup.  All students will need warm clothing (players and spectators).  Players are asked to wear their team colours and we also suggest that they have a towel.  Games start at 10am, there will be pool play, semi finals and finals.  The tournament is scheduled to finish with a prize giving at approximately 2:15 pm.  There will be a sausage sizzle and drinks for sale.  $1 each.

This Friday 2nd July is the last day for Term 2.  The First Day of Term 3 begins Monday 19th July.
