Dear Parents and Caregivers
Welcome to term 3, already! We have welcomed several new families to our community and look forward to getting to know you over the coming weeks. As always, please do not hesitate to come and see us if you have any questions, concerns or ideas.
During our professional learning day in the holidays, we explored the type of data that we can collect for assessing progress over time in reading, writing and numeracy. One of the features of Carterton School is the determination of the staff to continually improve teaching methods.
Due to Alison’s Sabbatical leave there are some changes in staff this term. Wendy Taylor is Acting Principal, Barbara Whitburn is Acting Deputy Principal and we welcome Trasna Graham to the teaching team. Trasna will teach in Room 3 and cover Management Release throughout the school this term. We are all looking forward to our new focus as we work together for the benefit of our students.
Last term we had some concerns about vehicles parking in the driving section of the school car park. Please show courtesy to others when dropping off and collecting your children.
Behaviour management
After much discussion, we are making a couple of important changes to our behaviour management system.
- Parents will now be contacted by the classroom teacher when their child is regularly unable to focus on learning and is distracting other students. This will allow parents and teachers to discuss the situation and establish ways that we can work together to improve the child’s behaviour and learning focus.
- Additionally, these students may be removed from the classroom to work in the Team Leader’s class, or with the Deputy Principal for a part of or the whole day. This will happen when the student needs time for discussion to develop future positive actions. This will allow the rest of their class to focus on their learning programme.
World Cup Football. A big thank you to the Kuranui College students who organised and ran this event for us! Congratulations to Netherlands (Rm3) and Spain (Rm1) for making it through to the Grand Final. Congratulations Spain for winning the cup by penalty shoot-out. (It was even more exciting a finish than the World Cup Final in South Africa). The students all had a great day. Thank you to the players who showed enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. Finally, thank you to the supporters, your flags, costumes and vuvuzelas were brilliant!
