Carterton School - Newsletter No 3 – 3rd August 2010
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Last week I was absolutely blown away by the generosity of the Carterton School community as the response with the grocery items was phenomenal! The family was absolutely overwhelmed when about 10 boxes of groceries were delivered on Friday. Today we received a card with the following message: “We would love to say a really big thank you for your kind hearts. We appreciate everything you have done and have given us everything we really need. Our love to you all from the Hadfield-Wereta family.”
Thanks for letting us know when your child will be absent. Text messages can be left on 027 263 0770.
We have a lot of children off sick at the moment, and numerous children are also being sent home due to illness. With all these viruses in the community, it is important to keep children home as soon as the first symptoms occur as it helps to stop them spreading.
The Wairarapa DHB has issued some information to help reduce the spread of illness.
Do not return to school until 48 hours after symptoms have stopped. In general flu-like illness lasts 3-4 days but can last up to 7.
Telephone the Healthline 0800 611 116 or your GP for advice.
Prevent the spread of germs by covering your mouth and nose with tissues when coughing or sneezing and put the used tissues in the bin.
Wash your hands regularly with soap and warm water. Dry thoroughly. Always wash your hands before eating.
Our fire and earthquake drills have raised children’s awareness of what to do in the event of either of these. Also, to try and combat the spread of germs, we are talking to children about hygiene at the moment. It is always helpful if you reinforce these messages at home. You could start the conversation by asking about the song they are singing while they wash their hands.
The junior classes had fun celebrating 100 days of school last week. I enjoyed seeing the creative sets of 100 that children in Room 9 brought to school. Thank you to all those parents who helped to put these together. Research shows that the home-school partnership is one of the most significant aspects that impacts positively on children’s learning.
We are on the countdown to spring. Already I have seen lambs gambolling in the paddocks and noticed it is lighter for longer. So it won’t be too long before we are enjoying warmer weather.
Lunch Order Menu Change – Spaghetti Bolognaise has been replaced by Kofte (meat patties with rice) – price still $4.00.
The PTA will soon be selling chocolate as a fund-raiser for furniture, curtains etc. for the Junior block. This will be sent home with each family. Your child will bring home a box of 20 chocolate blocks which sell at $2.50 each. If you do NOT wish to take part in this fundraiser please fill in and sign the slip below and return it to school immediately. Thank you for your support – Carterton School PTA.
Donations Please – Art Club are making bags this term. We would greatly appreciate donations of: fabric, buttons, ribbon, braid. Please drop into the school office. Many thanks. Ms Edwards.
