Carterton School Preschool Programme

This was established in 1998, after a meeting with a group of parents of four year olds, to see if there was a need for such a programme. With the changing face of Preschool Education, parents felt there was a high need, to help pave the way for children starting school. The child takes some paper homework which includes cutting, writing, drawing, colouring and recognising numbers and letters plus a reading book. Each week Ronny Tankersley, who established the programme, sees each child individually. She looks at their homework and gives effusive praise! Then the reading book is heard. The nest week’s homework and reader are then gone over for the following week. This takes about ten minutes. The programme has been improved over the years and recently enrolled child number 355! Not all have stayed the course, but many have found it very useful. There is no charge, although donations towards the running costs are welcome! Anyone with a four year old child who would like to join the programme on Friday afternoons between 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm is welcome to contact Ronny Tankersley at Carterton School.
